As a technique to communicate a large amount of information, nothing beats a lists with bullet points.
Here is my most recent list, developed to present new content for my website:
1. Maintain A Positive Attitude
- “...The most important single factor that guarantees our success in every aspect of our lives is having a positive attitude.”
- "Without a positive attitude success is not possible.”
- A more positive attitude is something that virtually every healthy individual can and should bring about.
2. Desire Success As Much As You Desire Air To Breath
- the most successful people achieved their results as a result of a burning desire deep within them
- A Greek philosopher, whose student approached to teach him how to acquire wisdom fast was said to have taken the student to a river. The teacher then held the student’s head and pushed it down into the water until he, student, almost choked to death. When the philosopher let go, he explained to the baffled student that the desire for wisdom must be as strong as the desire for air.
3. Commit to Taking Action
- The ultimate competitive advantage is consistently doing what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it. That's commitment.
- By definition, the term means being bound to a course of action to bring about desired results.
4. Focus On Actions, Not Results
- the key to maintaining your focus is to not allow yourself to be distracted by events and factors that lead away from achieving desired outcomes.
- the most successful people focus on the process of achieving their results, instead of the outcomes that they would like to bring about.
5. Plan To Succeed
- Most, if not all successful people achieved their results as a result of a planned process.
- This process involves setting and achieving goals that reflect the outcome that you would to bring about...your desired results.
6. Implement Your Plan Consistently
- Even the best of plans are not self-implementing. in order to succeed it is important to focus on the actions you need to take...not the results that you would like to achieve.
- without taking action, the 10 principles of success are little more than wishful thinking.
7. Continue To Learn
- there is nothing basically wrong with sticking to tried and true methods of doing things
- it is important maintain your willingness to learn as new and potentially better ways of doing things are introduced.
- experience is one of the best sources of learning new things.
- you can learn from your own experience and you can also learn from the experience of others.
8. Apply What You Have Learned
- if you are learning new things in order to get better at what you do, you must be able to apply what have learned.
9. Follow-up, Follow-up, Follow-up
- usually simple, easily completed tasks, effective follow-up can also be one of the most powerful of all 10 principles of success
10. Remain Flexible
- both life and personal journeys to success seldom unfold exactly as planned.
- with enough flexibility, we can respond effectively to new opportunities as they present themselves...and take appropriate actions to avoid, or otherwise minimize any threats that may arise.
It is worth noting that two of these principles relate to the know-how component of the marketing triangle I written about.
Specifically, principles 7 and 8 reflect know-how.
Similarly, principles 1-4 are attitude related.
The remaining principles...5, 6, 9 and 10...relate in some how to taking action.
Not coincidentally, the know-how represents 20% of the total, attitudes represent 40% and actions represent 40%....just like in the marketing triangle.
It seems that the concept of the marketing triangle also applies equally to the principles of success.
Maybe I should start calling it the success triangle.
