Roadside Perils of Blogging

By
Real Estate Agent with Healdsburg Sotheby's International Realty

Sonoma County Barn WoodBloggers can join the list of drivers to watch out for. We probably aren't quite as bad as cell phone talkers and lipstick appliers, but it's hard watching for great blogging images while trying to navigate back country roads. At least for me. This latest adventure didn't occur while driving, but the pulling over to the side of the road could have been a lot smoother

I was taking a back road shortcut to meet my buyers and their septic inspector at a property in the Chalk Hill appellation of the Russian River Valley. The road is in bad shape, but is graced with some great scenery. I have photographed one particular barn several times, but the light was warm and the spring scenery added a nice touch to the area. I knew I had to get out of the car to get the right angle on the picture and to shoot over a fence that would have interfered. So, I eased off the shoulder...right into a leaf-covered mud hole.

Stuck in the mudI have done enough bad weather driving to know I should keep my momentum going and try to climb out of the other side of the hole, but the mud wasn't listening. With a sinking feeling of "gonna miss my appointment", I got out of the car and walked around to look at the problem. I barely avoided getting my right foot embedded in my own personal mud hole. I tried the old "drive out on branches" trick, but finally resorted to a higher tech solution. I called a tow company...

I managed to use the waiting time to compose a blog post about getting stuck in the mud while blogging.

this is it.

The moral of the story for me is to think twice before assuming a roadside ditch has got a solid bottom....and to stay in cell phone range of a tow truck.

Dave, you know who to made mud into a funny experience.  Mud happens, right?  A happy spin to a spinning of the wheels tale!

Great Pics and story...  Good to wake up with a smile and good that you don't take yourself to serious...  Positive thinking works wonders...

Dave,

Cute blog.  Love the final pic!  Yeah, the mountains with a lack of cell phone reception and those Mud holes will get you every time!

The good news is you got a blog post out of it.  When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

All the best, Michelle

Dave:

Getting stuck, whether it is in the mud or snow, is no laughing matter.  However, you managed to bring a smile to us today with the story and photos.

It is easier to laugh about something if it is not you who got into a mess. Congratulations for your reserve and for not overperforming trying to get out. Calling a tow truck shows that it is not the stumble that matters, it is the recovery.

Dave,

Lovely post, I remember those roads in wine country.  We love the texture of the wood on the barn.  There are so many lovely places in your area...The mustard and the acacia must be in full bloom, my favorite time in Napa and Sonoma, Have a lovely week.

Dave - I too have been worried about my driving.  I almost drove into the ditch on Llano road while admiring the mustard, acacia and daffodils.  We are seeing a lot of yellow in Sonoma County these days.

Nice mud hole. I am glad things worked out with the client, and the car was not damaged. On the other hand how were your shoes? LOL...

This is why we Texans keep pick-up trucks and tractors handy. Ranching, Real Estate and mud seems to go together and meet up frequently. Hopefully you didn't just get your car washed before you got mud all over it!

Amy - whether the car needed a wash before the mudhole might be debatable, but it was a great excuse to wash it afterwards.

Once again, thanks to everyone who shares my sense of humor about this. Life is what we make of it.
