Bloggers can join the list of drivers to watch out for. We probably aren't quite as bad as cell phone talkers and lipstick appliers, but it's hard watching for great blogging images while trying to navigate back country roads. At least for me. This latest adventure didn't occur while driving, but the pulling over to the side of the road could have been a lot smoother
I was taking a back road shortcut to meet my buyers and their septic inspector at a property in the Chalk Hill appellation of the Russian River Valley. The road is in bad shape, but is graced with some great scenery. I have photographed one particular barn several times, but the light was warm and the spring scenery added a nice touch to the area. I knew I had to get out of the car to get the right angle on the picture and to shoot over a fence that would have interfered. So, I eased off the shoulder...right into a leaf-covered mud hole.
I have done enough bad weather driving to know I should keep my momentum going and try to climb out of the other side of the hole, but the mud wasn't listening. With a sinking feeling of "gonna miss my appointment", I got out of the car and walked around to look at the problem. I barely avoided getting my right foot embedded in my own personal mud hole. I tried the old "drive out on branches" trick, but finally resorted to a higher tech solution. I called a tow company...
I managed to use the waiting time to compose a blog post about getting stuck in the mud while blogging.
this is it.
The moral of the story for me is to think twice before assuming a roadside ditch has got a solid bottom....and to stay in cell phone range of a tow truck.
