Tarpon Springs Florida Sponge Docks are known all over the world! Tarpon Springs is the one place in Florida where you can walk into almost any store or restaurant and speak Greek!!! It is a Greek community right here in Pinellas County! Located north of Clearwater, it is also a wonderful place to live!!!
In 1887 the sponge industry started in Tarpon Springs. Greek sponge divers were brought over here and by 1905 there were over 500 Greek sponge divers living in Tarpon Springs. Ever since that time the Greek community in Tarpon Springs has increased.
There are wonderful shops in Tarpon Springs where you can purchase clothing and a wide assortment of gifts that were made in Greece! Greek music can be heard on the streets and in the restaurants! One of my personal favorites for dinner is Mykonos Restaurant on Dodecanese Blvd. right along the Sponge Docks.
After you are finished having a meal in Mykonos Restaurant you can go for a stroll through the shops and purchase some wonderful Greek music to take home with you.
