Where is the "Justice" in America? - Police Officer Brian Huff shot to death in the line of duty by: Robert Swetz

A very good friend of mine and co-worker lost his best friend Brian Huff to a shoot out in Detroit Michigan early Monday morning.

My friend grew up with Brian in Detroit and has known his since he was 5-6 years old.

Word has it Brian and 4 other police officers reported to a abandoned home after gun shoots were reported. Brain was the first to enter the home backed up by 3 rookies & another officer.

As Brian entered the abandoned home he was shot two times in the head at close range and died on the scene, and the other 4 officers were wounded trying to pull Brian's body away from the scene.

My friend I work with in Las Vegas Nevada is very hurt and unset about the lose of his dear friend Brian Huff and will be attending his wake & funeral in Detroit later in the week.

Brian Huff was visiting Las Vegas with my friend several months ago and was working on being transferred to San Diego California where the weather is warmer and there is less crime. I guess Brian will never see that day and has left behind a 11 year old son and his loving wife.

There should be hundreds maybe thousands of police officers attending the wake & funeral because Brian Huff was well known & loved by many people.

Here is a clip from the Associated Press about the shooting below.

What's so upsetting about this shooting is the man that shot Brian Huff lived through the shoot out and if committed to death row will be a hero for shooting 5 officers in the line of duty from cellmates and criminals across the country.

"It is just plain sick if you ask me"

And after the investigation if the man that shot Brian Huff has been convicted of the crime is guilty and I was the Judge in the case I would say ............

"Hang Him"

Robert...you are so right....that was & will be a very SAD day in Michigan history.  To have such fine persons sacrifice their very lives in order to keep all of us safe.  True, he & the other Officers there, were not physically near to our home, but they were not very far away.  * Mi Rd & Schoenherr are not so far from us. He lived very close geographically to our home--the next Township South of us.
Would that we all could move the calendar back to the release of the character who shot all 5 police & took the life of this great, "gentle giant"; to the days of Mr Huff's trip to CA; to the success of his transfer to CA; to the night before when he said good bye to his wife & son.
But, all that can be done here is to insist that Brave Police & Firemen as well as Military be given the respect so justly deserved.  That they are adequately paid for putting their lives on the line on a daily basis.
One more great man, who is now with his & our Creator; one more Brave MAN who will be missed.
Thanks for posting this, from all of Detroit Area folks to all who read your blogs

How tragic! My prayers go out to the family and friends. My brother and my nephew are police officers, and two other nephews are firemen... I worry constantly.

Hello Barb & Sal and I want to personally thank you for stopping by to comment and my friend that lost the "Gentle Giant" will be reading members comments and whipping his tears.

I work very close with Brian's friend and I have heard him speak over the phone to others how nice and kind Brian was and loved by so many.

We lost a very good man Monday and will justice be served?

I agree with you that when convicted he should be hung and not praised by his cellmates.

My Son In Law is a Sheriff out here and everyday these fine men and women put their lives on the line,

My prayers are with this Officers family and your Friend.

Thanks for stopping by Lou and the jails are full and our country can't afford to keep all the criminals locked up, we need to set examples and punish more extreme for "Murder"

In other countries they would take this man out and shoot him without a trial!

VB, There will never be made any sense out of a violent crime, I feel so bad for the family and friends of this hero. People who put their life on the line for the rest of us often go unnoticed until something reminds us of how selfless they really are.

All you can do is be there for your friend.

What a tragedy. So much for the penalty not matching the crime. Will the liberals ever learn?

Robert, this story hits very close to home for me.   One of my best friends in Chicago lost his father (a Chicago police officer) in a similar scenario.  My friend and his mother are very active in the Gold Star community.

As my husband likes to say, the American jurisprudence system is not a justice system. It is merely a legal system, and while it has its problems, it's still the best legal system in the world.
