Great title for a post! And I have to add, my husband and I were in Cancun a few years back and we walked up the Myan ruins/Pyramids then...my legs ached for days! lol
Cheron
I once climbed more than 500 steps to get to the top of Skellig Michael (off the Ring of Kerry), and I thought I was gonna die. There's a 7th Century monestary at the top, and thousands of puffins along the way. But wow, what a climb.
Gary,
This could be Maya or Inca construction, nevertheless, those folks knew how to stay in shape the old-fashioned way, they earned it. A few moons ago had a chance to test something like that at the Mayan ruins in Copan, Honduras.
Gary this is an amazing structure. We tend to forget that even back then mankind used the marvelous brain to come up with something like this. After all the computer was modeled after our brain so this should not be a surprise that such a feat was possible even in an older civilization.
Gary - great name for the post. More longlasting than any modern stairmaster and probably more of a workout!
Gary
My wife and I actually did a couple of these in Mexico a few years back ...the coming down is scary!
Hi Gary, Trey just confirmed my fear, I think going down would be scary! What a terrific structure though.
Ancient stairmaster indeed, Gary. What a workout for the glutes going up, but I would be very cautious coming down, taking one step at a creeping time. Do you think that our modern structures will stand the test of time like that? Methinks not...
Gary, I'll admit I need the help of the modern ones to get the job done! Great title to your post!
Hi Gary ~ Great Title for the post. I don't think I could make the trip up.
OMG! Can you imagine!? Our local lighthouse has almost 400 steps. It seems to be getting harder to climb as time goes by. Hmmm. But at least the coming back down part is still pretty easy ;-)
Gary, I just got back from a long walk, up and down hills, with my dog Zeke. Those ancient stairs would indeed be a great workout for both of us for sure!
Great caption!
I think I've been there...didn't do the full stairmaster, though :)
I had to laugh at this one. I bet there weren't any fat people in those days.
Gary,
That is an amazing piece of architecture. I don't think I could do the trip more than once!
