wordpress or activerain?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Abacus Properties Inc.

I just attended a introductory social media class at our San Diego Realtor Association. One of the few ideas I picked up was sign up with wordpress, host your own site. I have always thought to put all my blog contents on activerain, believing with all these realtors blogging, it will bring my blogs to the top of search engines. The instructor explain that on activerain, you don't owe your contents, whereas wordpress you do. Their suggestion is to post some on activerain, so you have a presence, but keep your contents on wordpress. I am not sure how true that is, since I have had great success with blogging here in AR.

I'm not sure what they mean about not owning the content.  I absolutely do own what I post about.  It's my content, and it's copyright protected.

not on AR, read the fine print...I always knew that, but I didn't think that was important...

I suggest having a wordpress (or other individual blog) but keep an active presence on activerain in order to keep your seo high.

I have used Wordpress to link to my Linkedin account.  I knew I owned my content there and just took it for granted that was standard for all blogs.  Shame on me for not taking more responsibility for what I write and post online.

Think I will finish reading all the fine print before I start my Active Rain blog.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Kathy.  I had no idea I didn't own my own post content on ActiveRain.  I have a Wordpress account but haven't done anything with it, maybe I need to re-think that.

I think I need to clarify more on Wordpress. There are 2 Wordpress: wordpress.com is free and the terms are similar to AR; wordpress.org is also free but you have to pay for hosting. Wordpress.org is the one I am talking about where you owe your contents.

Thank you all for your comments!

Hi Kathy - on AR, you do own your content allowing AR to feature it and include it in our Daily Drop newsletters.  Wordpress is a good solid platform designed for any type of Blogging but AR is setup particularly for the Real Estate Industry with many features and benefits you won't find on any other Blogging platform.

May I suggest you attend our FREE webinar/class tomorrow to get a more thorough understanding of AR's Blogging netowrk and the benefits of hosting your Blog posts here?  I hope you can make it. Thanks.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me anytime, I'd love to help if I can.  :-)

Thank you Brad. I understand that you do own your content, just not 100% because we gave up the right to AR. But don't get me wrong, I really appreciate what AR has helped with my business. Just wanted to share what I learned.
