A charity fundraiser will be held on Friday, August 10th at the beautiful La Habra Community Center to benefit cancer research. The event will feature a "Casino Night" organized by Andrea's Angels and headed by Angela Trujillo. Angela was diagnosed with cancer herself,  nine years ago. She was diagnosed with three different cancers in three years. After being in remission for six years, she was diagnosed again (a month ago) for the fourth time. Yet this remarkable woman doesn't let that get her down. She's moving forward with this special event to raise more funds for researching cancer.

On a personal note, I doubt  there is a person out there who has not been affect by cancer in some way in their own lives.  We're experiencing this ourselves right now with a 5 1/2 year-old in our family who was diagnosed late April of this year. Last week we held a huge garage sale in nearby Brea, in which 100% of all proceeds collected are going Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.   We collected over $800.00 in one morning.

Now Andrea needs our help. The City of La Habra CA is a community nestled in the area of Northern Orange County. If you live or work anywhere in the vicinity of La Habra or surrounding communities, we need your participation.

Event: Casino Night with Andrea's Angels

Lynda,  this is an excellent fundraising event and your post about it is beautifully done. I'm very saddened to read that a child in  your family has also been touched by cancer; my thoughts are with you and your little one.

My Dad was saying the other night that he can't understand how mankind is able to send people to the moon and spacecraft to other planets, and yet we can't seem to find a consistent and good cure for cancer, or possibly, a preventative.

I also read yesterday that the majority of our medicines for cancer come from the rainforest and yet only a very small fraction of the total plants in the rainforest have even been identified or assessed for their cancer preventative/curing abilities. I hope that research is able to continue in this direction and that one day soon we will have the answer. Event such as the one you have blogged about are all playing such an important part in this research.

Jo-Anne ~ Thanks for the comment and I agree with your points. When you see someone like this who has been diagnosed 4 times with 4 different types of cancer, my heart just goes out to her.

Lynda,

I hope this event raises a bunch of money for this worthwhile cause.  You do a lot of posts about charity events and I think it is great that you are so involved in giving back to your community!

Rita ~ Your comment just absolutely warm my heart, thank you so very much. When you/we are blessed  with so many gifts in life, giving back is such a very small part.

My own family has been gently touched by many, and the prayers have been the best. We  couldn't even be close to giving back enough. Thank you for your visit and thoughtful comment.

My best,

Lynda Eisenmann

Lynda - You are so right that there are few among us whose lives have not been touched by Leukemia.  With great fundraisers like this one, more research can be done.  Because of all the great people who have worked and contributed in the past, we have great hope for the precious little one you mentioned.  What a blessing that was to be given the news that the cure rate was 90%.  That's what these fund raisers can do.

Congrats, too on your great success with the garage sale!

Hey Marlene~ You are so right and thank you for the wonderful comment. It's also a matter of confronting cancer of many types... as in Ashely in La Habra, CA. and It CAN BE WON!

Marlene as you know, this is personal for me and my family. unexpexted, leukemis is now a part of our immediate family. At this point, we are so grateful for others who have come before and have given so much. Those families who made a choice to make a difference in their lives, and those of others.

So the GOOD NEWS, t's time for all us us  to get involved!
