The Parade
I'm glad my 7 year old granddaughter will be home tomorrow so she won't miss the annual Oak Lawn 4th of July parade, which starts at 1:00. Last year she spent the day with her father and had to miss it. The parade is conveniently located yards from our home. It goes down 95th St. starting at 51st Ave. and going west to 55th Ct.
The parade is always fun with plenty of candy being thrown out by parade participants. You'll see a lot of sports mascots that also "shoot" t-shirts out to the crowd.
There are horses, bands, floats, motorcycle shows and so much more. It really is a fun parade and although it brings the residents out, you should be able to get a good seat lining 95th street. Bring your lawn chairs and cameras.
4th of July in Centennial Park
Starting at 11:00 a.m. and going until 3:00 p.m., there is plenty of 4th of July fun at Centennial Park located at 93rd & Nashville. There will be games, races and tournaments, Bingo and arts and crafts. This offers fun for all ages.
Oak Lawn Fireworks
Richards High School will host the fireworks starting at dusk (located near 106th & Central). Prior to the fireworks display, entertainment can be enjoyed starting at 8:00.
Watch a gymnastics show provided by the Oak Lawn Park District Pirouettes followed by entertainment provided by Dave Rudolph, an award winning musician and comedian. Dave has had a gold record, a Grammy nomination, has been nominated 14 times for the NACA Entertainer of the Year award and has won the Parent Choice Musician and Comedian award twice.
As you can see, Oak Lawn, IL offers an entire day of 4th of July festivities. You can spend your entire Sunday enjoying Independence Day in the village of Oak Lawn.
