Midnight Madness - Downtown Oakville 2010
Friday July 16, 2010
Downtown Oakville will celebrate it's 33rd year of midnight madness on July 16th. Lakeshore Road will be closed to traffic from Navy Street to Allan Street to accommodate the 50,000 plus crowd of Oakville residents and visitors for this huge annual retail event.
All of the downtown shops and boutiques will keep their doors open until Midnight and many restaurants will offer up food and drinks on outdoor patios. Various Charitable Organizations will also have tents and barbecues set up so the sounds and smells and sights will be awesome.
It is like a huge block party only there are a half dozen blocks with bands, performers, and entertainment at every corner along the way. The Oakville Fire Department is always present with their ladder trucks and are a big hit with the little ones.
The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts always draws a huge outdoor crowd just sitting around the perimeter and enjoying the music. Towne Square is another popular rest stop.
This is an evening when strollers, dogs, wheelchairs, rollerblades, old and young alike get to intermingle along Lakeshore Road and the sidewalks of Oakville's downtown core.
Of course this is also a great opportunity to take a stroll along Oakville's beautiful waterfront, harbour and pier.
Midnight Madness is a very special event in Oakville that only gets better with age. I'm sure #33 in 2010 will not disappoint.
