Isaiah MustafaEver wonder what that old school brand of a home can do on the market today?  That's when you need "hot" home stagers for your real estate.  One contractor in Florida has a program called "Refresh to Sell."  It works!  Fresh marketing style can do it too.

There isn't a brand more old school than Old Spice.  Some fresh creative has made this really old icon, an aftershave my Dad used, become hip.  New packaging, new names, new campaign... is all it took to go VIRAL!

You probably don't remember the lame commercials that Old Spice produced to try and boost their brand and sell more products years ago. They were not memorable.

But now, Old Spice has a new creative team. Quite simply, they're nuts.

They've been known to shoot 200 commercials in 2 days. Then they put them on YouTube.

And they're getting 2 million, 10 million, and 15 million views - each.  WHAT!!??  This is the definition of a viral campaign.

The same actor, Isaiah Mustafa, is usually dressed in a towel and speaking in a very self-assured tone of voice, saying the most preposterous things the creative team could think up.  It's so dumb it's funny.

Craig Allen and Eric Kallman, copywriters at Wiedon + Kennedy, originally wrote the Old Spice spot for a Super Bowl commercial. Mustafa starts in a shower, ends up on a boat, and the punch line at the end, "I'm on a horse" is so ridiculous it's funny - and memorable.

From there, hundreds of spots have been made.

Now there are knock-offs, chubby guys making YouTube parodies of the Old Spice guy. New York Italians trying to get in on the act. They aren't nearly as funny but when people start making advertising for your product, good or bad, you have a hit you can count on.

Old Spice is sold in drug stores and grocery stores and checking at CVS and Winn-Dixie, their sales are up in the West Palm Beach area. The company won't give actual numbers, but has confirmed that they have a good bump in sales.

A great marketing campaign means more sales, brand awareness, or recognition.  More sales is best.  You can be funny, get a lot of play, but if business measurements don't improve, it's a waste of money.

Allen and Kallman are really young guys in their 20's. They have a huge future ahead of them. I wonder if they are writing the Old Spice Twitter page too?   It has the same beat and humor.  With over 88 thousand followers; for deodorant, shaving cream, and body wash products; you know the campaign has to be good.

These guys are great. My wife and I were laughing out loud to the "serious as a heart attack in a zeppelin over a bacon factory" video.

I just saw this today on TV.  The video caught my eye then I was surprized to find out it was for Old Spice.  Great idea!  We could all do well to think outside the box.

Communication that increases sales!

Darrell and Carla:  If you saw pictures of the copywriters you would think they're in high school.  Really smart and fresh out of Portland.  Real Estate has to get out of the traditional advertising mode.  All the ads look alike!
