I am a former loan officer a current Realtor-in-referral. I quit doing loans in March of this year. I, simply, grew tired of dealing with know-little agents, back stabbing loan officers, clients willing to sell you out for a .25% better from the starving LO on the street corner holding will "work for loans" sign, the banks changing their mind on good loans and ever changing landscape regulation landscape that may or may not be a mirage.
What have I learned in the last 6 months?
- That most agents in my area do not know SEO, blogging or even customer service
- their idea of Social Networking is banging you over the head with listings
- they pretend they want help, but don't have the drive to learn it themselves or willingness to pay for it
- loan officers will pay for content, that is neither SEO'd or original
- they still don't check on their signs after a storm or re-fill information baskets
- they still think that the homes book or the weekly paper still gets them noticed
- that open houses are the end all be all
- they still don't recognize true genius
I know I toss a lot out there, and I sure you are wondering "well, Dave, what the hell are you doing about it".
Let me tell you. I started a new company that is based on Performance Based Marketing, and when that is running where I want it and that is really 3 months out. I am pulling my license out of referral and pulling all of my domains out of moth balls and going to show the local yokels what the heck is really going on in the industry.
Don't think for a moment, I have kept my light under a bushel. I have hosted one ReBarCamp, and spoke at 3 others, and if you were at RainCamp in Chicago. I was quite outspoken giving additional tips to the already great presentations.
i have two blogs that deal with marketing and branding, here are some helpful links DaveWoodson.com and getUnoticed.com. Do you know what it takes to be successful in todays Real Estate Market - Not Much. Just doing something a little bit different will get you noticed, get you more leads and you can actually work less.
