Keeping the Song in Your Heart...

Photo sent to me by a colleague...     In the beginning the Universe was without form. From out of the darkness, a song broke the stillness. The melodic tones flowing over the barren, lifeless, void brought form to the formless and light split the darkness. The notes of the haunting song continued and light was cast upon a desolate rock spinning in the cosmos. Plants grew, animals sprang forth, and birds filled the air. Animals learned the song, kept it in their hearts, and the song of Creation continued. In C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia", Aslan, was the singer and he sung from a melody he had deep within his heart.
There is some debate among scholars and theologians as to whether Genesis 1 is a song, poetry, or an historic accounting of Creation. Historically, in ancient times, accounts that were meant to be remembered where written in verse. It is understandable, how one can also interpret these ancient writings as a beautifully scripted poetic accounting of events.
Your beliefs as to whether there is or isn't a "Supreme Being" or the origins of Creation is not what's important. We all believe in something. Today, we live in a world full of strife. Humanity is out of tune and has forgotten the refrain. All is not lost, the lyrics and the music is still there. All we need to do is look up and gaze into the heavens. If we listen carefully, we can hear somewhere off in the distance, the song still beating from deep within our own hearts...

CS Lewis warned about "situational ethics". Twisting, spinning in today regardless of your beliefs about yesterday, tomorrow with your faith mean living, walking, being upfront and honest, straight arrow consistent. Your kids are watching and so is the little voice in your head, someone overhead.

Inspector Gadget Michael, that was deep thoughts for this morning. But so true, we seem to have lost the song in our hearts. Thank you for the reminder of what I should be focused on.

What a deep post Michael!  A bit too early for me and not enough coffee yet to start philosophizing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless :-)

Yeah, it is a little deep. Like a BB in a boxcar, this has been something rolling between my ears the past week or so...

Michael, I don't think the song goes away---just our hearing.

Michael....I agree with Charles, it is our hearing that causes the problem - the music is always there.

Sometimes life seems to feel like the old song, "I Let a Song Go Out Of My Heart...", though there is so much to be thankful for, we should never feel that way.

The Magnificat was clearly in song form and I believe that the account of the creation could be as well.  This would have made it easier to memorize in a day when no written form of communication was existent.

I think you have a little bit of song in your heart Michael.  Your writing flows beautifully and gracefully and is music to our ears.
