I have lived here over 30 years and I have never seen anything like this. The last several days there have been a Blue and Fin whale migration just a few hundred feet off the coast of Palos Verdes. The best vantage point is just south of Pt Vicente, where the whales come very close to the cliff. If you were at Terranea, a luxury hotel, you would be getting quite a show.
I saw a few last Wednesday, with the highlight being over 50 whales passing the cliff on Thursday. There were still quite a few over the weekend, and at times they would stop and splash in the sea. I see them all the time while driving along Palos Verdes Dr. I was able to shoot a few video's - here is a post of one. Its a bit long, with some great footage -
Towards the end of the video there is a massive Blue very close to shore. He is acutally doing a barrell roll to bring krill to the surface and feed.
