Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Value of Local Knowledge--Off The Beaten Path

As a luxury real estate marketing professional, you are a source of great information for anyone who is thinking of moving to your market.  Because, you live there and have experienced so many things, you know the shortcuts as well as the special places in your town.  Sharing them with your prospective market can lead them to make the decision to make a move or better yet hire you.

Regardless of the ubiquitous reach of the Internet, local knowledge is still the property of the locals who live in the community.  This is true of real estate and special places that are not reported by travel advisors and those who recommend places to eat or visit.  When someone moves into your town, there are a myriad of new relationships to be developed from service professionals to specialty retailers, etc.  You also know the treasures off the beaten path.

Whenever we travel, I (Alexandra) do a great deal of research on line, read books, and ask everyone I know where and what they enjoyed in their travels to a particular city or country.  Inevitably upon getting there, I end up questioning the locals retailers and people we meet.  In Milan, Italy, we parked the car and asked the parking attendant where we should dine.  He led us to a wonderful little restaurant tucked away in a lovely neighborhood.  It was the only restaurant there.  We walked in and were greeted as friends.  When we asked for the wine of the region, the waiter brought us an enormous carafe filled with a red wine.  We were stunned, it was impossible for 3 of us to drink it all.  His answer was don't worry, we only charge for what you drink!  We were the only tourists there, and thanks to my excellent eating and shopping Italian, we dined on some of the best Milanese cuisine.  To this day, we reminisce about the great food, the great service, and the familial atmosphere of the place.

In Carpinteria, which is a few exits south of Santa Barbara, we have a wonderful little Mexican restaurant off the beaten path.  As you get off the freeway exit into town, it is just past office buildings and a few residences.  Delgado's (opened in 1965) is off the beaten path.  It is not on the radar of guide books.  It has wonderful food, a simple confortable ambiance, and great service.  If you ask for a substitution, the answer always is "No Problem".  Large and small families gather there in the evenings, and at lunchtime, as well as local business people.  We are there for a bite at least twice a month.  It is always a pleasure to share these finds with friends old and new and accross the World Wide Web.
