Phising from a site that says its the IRS.

I just received an email from a site that said it was from the IRS looked as good as can be had the little symbol of the IRS on it . It said there was an error on my taxes and that I would be getting back an additional $268.00. When I clicked on the  link they provided thats where I knew this was a hoax. They asked for my SSN which for the IRS is ok. But then they go on to say that they can put this money into your credit card or on your bank debit card. They then ask to give them the number of whichever account you want it to go into.  Once you do that you will be screwed.

Steven - this is an old hoax that keeps rearing its ugly head from time to time.  Keep in mind that if you are owed anything from the IRS they will send it to you in US mail.  The IRS does not use email for those purposes - ever.

Hey at least you caught it before it too far.  I think internet explore has a phishing protector now, or you can go with norton.

Steven, another scam is purportedly from your bank, and the site looks just like the real bank's website.  They ask you to log in with your pin number.  Just by doing that, with keylogging software, they can steal your pin #.

So I guess the 'New and Improved IRS' now emails people to speed up the process...?  Actually, I thought I'd seen just about every possible scam, but I haven't known of anyone receiving this one yet.

(meanwhile, the number of African bankers who want to partner up with me to launder money is growing by the day!)
