Barnegat's Growing Up!
Beginning today, October 19th Barnegat, New Jersey will have a fully functional northbound exit from the Garden State Parkway. So Barnegat joins the other New Jersey towns with access to and from the Parkway's north and south bound lanes. The long awaited exit from the Parkway North is opening this morning!
For years, drivers could only get to Barnegat via a southbound exit on the Parkway. You had to get off in Manahawkin and go north or Waretown and go south. And the Parkway entrance in Barnegat allowed only northbound traffic. But Barnegat is no longer just a summer distination for north Jersey residents coming to the Jersey Shore. It's population has doubled in the past 20 years.
The southbound entrance to and exit from the Parkway in Barnegat is on Lighthouse Road. The entrance opened earlier this year. The northbound entrance remains on West Bay Avenue, and the new northbound exit from the Parkway will bring you out to West Bay. Make a right if you're going to the Municipal Dock and the Barnegat Bay, make a left if you're going to Ocean Acres, Barnegat's adult communities or Cloverdale Farm County Park!
For those not familiar with the 'Parkway' it's the 172 mile limited access toll road that runs the entire length of New Jersey from Motvale in the north to Cape May in the South. And if you like some humorous New Jersey driving tips, check this out!
