Reading between the lines...

Hi all: I just was on Yahoo Finance and almost all the information being reported gave me pause. From Ireland's bailout by the EDC to insider trading scandals on Wall Street, the news is a bit grim.

It's interesting that our government keeps trotting out positive numbers (4 straight months of increasing retail sales, for example). Perhaps they're trying to buoy our spirits. Either that or they're living in la-la land.

All is not doom and gloom out there. I have friends who are starting to do better. In fact, my wife and I are doing a little bit better financially every month. But any thoughts of a quick recovery should be discounted. We've got a ways to go. My feeling is if we can make it through 2011, better times are ahead.

What do you think? What are you seeing? Is it cloudy or partly sunny instead? Thanks in advance for your input. Have a great day!

Paul, there's no quick fix to this quagmire, and maybe there's a few tremors yet to come, however, there are some positives. For one thing, we are slowly pulling ourselves up by the bootstraps, and I think that we have learned some very valuable lessons, and we are a whole lot wiser now. I think we have learned to be a lot more respectful towards debt.

Paul I have had two good years in a row, this one being the best of the two, but things have been slower over the past month.  However even with the slow down I am still busier than I normally am during this time of the year.

The media was a big contributor in putting us in this mess with all their over blown doom and gloom.  Sure there were a few states that the doom and gloom was accurate, but not the majority.  Now the present administration is trying to us the media to paint a different picture, and if they paint a better picture than things really are, then the public might by the message.  But the reality is that we are still far from being where we need to be.

George: Good for you! I agree with you in that we have a ways to go. Happy Thanksgiving!

Malcolm: Thanks for commenting. I agree with you. As difficult as this has been for many of us, it was probably necessary. Sometimes austerity is good! Take care.

Hi Paul,

2009 was pretty bitter for me. In 2010 I built traction and momentum. I expect 2011 to be a building year, but a good one, none the less.

Phil: Good for you. I'm seeing 2011 being better. Perhaps it's a better attitude; I don't know but I'll take it. I wish you well!
