QR Codes can be generated for free.

Counterpoint to a Members-Only post wondering if real estate professionals have been mislead regarding the cost of QR Codes.

My comment on that post

"I believe you are in error regarding availabity of free code generators.  QR Codes certainly can be generated for free.  If you are being charged and you want them for no charge, just use a site that offers them for free.

You may have the option to pay to receive enhanced services like tracking or dynamic assignment of data to a static code, but it is easy to find sites that will let you generate for free.

http://www.qrstuff.com/  Free generator.  With the OPTIONAL opportunity to access great enhanced services for nominal annual costs. (I am a member with a paid account.)

http://zxing.appspot.com/generator/   Free.  Well, of course, nothing is "free" at GOOG, but you don't have a $fee to generate a code.

http://www.qrjumps.com/content/qr-code-generator  Free, with optional upgrade.

http://www.beqrious.com/generator  Free with optional upgrade.

  http://qrcode.kaywa.com/  Free.  But limited to non-commercial use."

You can also generate them for free and get tracking at goo.gl

Now I am curious about this MO post :)

I am embarrassed to say "No.  Not yet."  We are in the middle of building a nifty new website, and will be incorporating QR Code use much more aggressively in a week or so.

Renee,

I believe GOOG is not truly free.  They undoubtedly record all use of the codes for their own intrusive marketing purposes.

I know what you mean on the Members Only...  =)

I'll be looking forward to seeing your new website.....we have been using QR codes on our signs on riders with directions to scan....no one has mentioned using them yet!!!  agents here don't know what they are!!

I have a sign rider up with a QR code and am tracking the hits.  Created it through goo.gl.  Also have a "temporary" QR code on my business card that goes to a YouTube video introduction.  Need to re-do the video and then I'll make it permanent on website etc.

We had a little meeting... demonstration, class or some sort of tech gathering in our office this morning and someone asked me if I had read about "the squiggles" in this morning's Columbus Dispatch.  I did not read the paper but I asked "QR codes?" I guess the squiggles are QR codes.  Seems our company is considering the squiggles... or that's the word in the Columbus Dispatch  and one of the local Re/Max offices?  Or maybe Re/Max in general is going with 'the squiggles." 

In breaking news map based search is passe?  Not sure if that was from an article in today's Dispatch or yesterdays.

Goo.gl offers not only QR codes for free, but if you sign up for a Google account if you don't already have one you really should, you can track them and tell exactly how many hits you are getting.

Yes, GOOG offers some services without a specific fee.  But, I think there is a hidden cost of doing business with GOOG, one that undermines "free."
