San Elijo Hills - A New Connection to San Marcos

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

San Elijo Hills now has a better connection to San Marcos, both on the east and west. The extension of San Elijo Road, which had previously run just from Rancho Santa Fe Road into San Elijo Hills (to the northeast end of the development) is now connected to Twin Oaks Valley Road over near the San Marcos campus of California State University.

This newly opened 2 mile road allows for improved commuting, and a much faster route to get into the heart of San Marcos and for those commuting west to Escondido, to the 78, or to the I-15 freeway to head north to Riverside or south to San Diego. The new road probably saves 15 to 20 minutes of commuting time.

Opened on September 5 after 15 years in the planning stages, residents can now enter and leave the community from the east and the west. In addition to providing better access and improved commuting, it also provides for improved safety in the event of a need to evacuate. The new fire station (above left) has broken ground and is being built on the new section of San Elijo Road about ½ mile beyond the current edge of this almost-8,000 resident community. There is little traffic on the road during the midday, but it is expected to change quickly.

The views of San Marcos, Elfin Forest and beyond are spectacular from the peak of the road as it cuts through the hills.

George - you're right. And this area was completely undeveloped - they had to cut through the mountain, which of course raised all sort of environmental issues. Major undertaking. Thanks for commenting.

Ines - yep, it is pretty hilly here, in fact there is not a lot of flat land near the coast. And the views from the hils are truly amazing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Neal - you're right, although there really are no trees, so those all need to be planted. Mostly scrusb brush and chaparal.
