ARE YOU AN ENERGY STEALER OR AN ENERGY GIVER?

As we go through life encountering various people, have you noticed how some people that you meet drain you while others leave you with a smile?

I often wonder what I might be leaving with other people I encounter.  I certainly hope that I am not a stealer!  These people wear their negativity for all the world to deal with.  Sure we all have bad days but is it ok to cause other people to suffer because you are?  I think NOT!

I call negative, sour and unpleasant people ENERGY STEALERS.  I have chosen to NOT allow these types of people to rob me of my joy.  When I encounter them, I smile and refuse to let their toxicity infect me.

On the opposite spectrum, isn't it wonderful when we encounter positive, encouraging people?  These folks make it a point to be pleasant to all they come into contact with.  They are a pleasure to be around and leave you feeling great.  These people are ENERGY GIVERS!

Which person are you?  Do you ROB or do you GIVE?

Paula, I sure hope I am a giver!  I don't think anyone wants to rob energy from others, but a positive attitude will help combat their toxicity!  And, I agree that we can choose to not let negativity in!

We have a similar philosophy here.  We say that those energy stealers are crabs in a crab pot.

The story goes that if you want to keep crabs from getting out of a crab pot, just put 2 of them in there.  As one starts to reach freedom, the other will pull it back down so that it can move to the top.  Put alot of crabs in there and none will ever reach freedom.

So when we encounter a crab, we push them back down in the crab pot and move about our day.

I love this....and i sure hope I am perceived as an energy giver!    It is the only way we will survive this market!    A guy in my office who is chronically negative has given me permission to call him on every time he is negative!    He realizes he doesn't even know when he is doing it any more!    WIll be interesting!  LOL

My buddy and I call them "ramoras."  You know how a ramora always latches on to another fish and sucks the blood out of them.  These guys suck the life out of you.  I distance myself from them.  Too much!

I refer to them as energy vampires... and oh do I hate to run into them! And I sure hope I am not one of them!

I am not a stealer and I have a problem being around what I call energy vampires, They make it hard to breath deeply.

Hello Paula and years ago we called them "Social Vampires" and they could and would suck the energy right out of you if you allowed it. For the most part I am a giver of energy but if someone comes alone thinking there going to suck my energy I will turn around and suck theirs out just to get rid of them ... ;0)

Paula, I consider everyday that I wake up a blessing, just yesterday I learned of another friends passing, and it dawned on me, no reason to be sad, I am of that age that this type of thing happens and I should be happy I am happy and healthy. I will say however one of the biggest energy suckers for me are people who are overly postive and it is so clear it is an act. I would rather be around someone who is being honest and has some "issues" than a phony.

You Paula are more than an energy giver, you are a beacon, it is clear your positive energy is completely honest. You are a constant reminder in my life that there are good people in the world...

Years ago I decided to stop letting myself be around negative people. Take a look at the most successful people in the world and they are almost always positive in nature. Good Post!

Give baby give.  Wait a minute, were these not lyrics in a song.  Cherise and I realize that when we take the spotlight off ourselves and put it on others, then we actually live healthier and give much more to others... g

I sure hope that I'm an energy giver too! I certainly try to live my life on the sunny side of life.

I love this Nat King Cole song!

    Smile though your heart is aching;
    Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by.
If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
    Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through for you.

Light up your face with gladness,
    Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
    If you just smile.

That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
    If you just smile.

Paula - a wonderful post and a great reminder to us all that we CAN be a giver not a stealer.  And oh, isn't it a joy to be around the givers!
