                                                                                                       Bandera park

If you check out my website www.rickieichlerrealestate.com, you'll find I mention "Paradise" a lot.  This is what I call the beautiful Texas Hill Country area.  I first discovered the area in 1986 on my way to South Padre Island, also a beautiful vacation spot.  My husband insisted we stop for the night in Bandera, TX.  I complained because I wanted to get to the coast as quickly as possible.  When we topped the hill on Hwy 16 just outside of Bandera, I was astounded at the quaint beauty of the Medina River valley.  The big water tower downtown stood out against the hills and I had a good feeling about our detour from our original path.

Three weeks later, my husband insisted we go home.  We had to get back to work.  But I didn't want to leave.  During that three weeks, we visited all over the Hill Country.  We found small towns each with their own theme and each with its own crystal clear, rock bedded, spring water, creek or river.  I love to swim but I like to see the bottom and here it was easy.  Twenty feet deep was as clear as six inches.  And the color of the water from an emerald green in Privilege Creek to aqua blues in the Frio.

The towering Cypress trees wave their arms as you float by on inner tubes.  Water trickles down the cliffs covered with ferns.  Springs pour into the rivers unnoticed except by the gurgling sound or the cooler change of the water temperature as you float by.  There are thousands of adventures awaiting the tuber.  Scenes nobody else can see except by tubing or kayaking.  There are places the mourning doves coo so loudly you can not hear your own thoughts.  The deer and the black buck antelope are so numerous it is dangerous to drive at night in some areas.  Exotic game ranches are in every corner of every county.

If you love nature like I do, you will love the incredibly beautiful Texas Hill Country.  I will write more about each town at a later date.  If you have any questions or want to vacation here let me know I can give you some pointers on where to go to have a great time.  I love this place and I like to introduce others to it.

Ricki -  I fell in love with your part of the world in 1983 when I drove down from Canada one spring to get away from it all :0)  I then moved to N Ireland and every summer I would drag my husband to Dallas and for 2 weeks and we would drive the state in a convertible with no plans or directions, just the wind telling us where to go.  I absolutely adore Texas and Texans!!!   Unfortunately, since we've moved back to Canada, we've had to limit our vacations to Texas to allow us time back to Europe!

When I read that you had earned 100000 points I was interested in how you started you blog and I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed.

Hi Susan,  Thanks for telling me your experiences here in Texas.  I love it here but I know Canada is a beautiful place too just a little too cold for me.  If you ever get this way please stop by and lets chat.
