The Hiker's Hut is a hidden treasure, owned and operated by the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club. It can be reached from several different trail heads, but the primary one is a one and one-half mile hike from the main parking lot at Sam McDonald County Park. Starting up the trail, the first half-mile leads steeply up through a redwood forest; the last mile heads over grassy meadows and wooded ridge tops.

Take a look, and see if this is your idea of a quick get-away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It works for me!

That's quite a nice hut. We have a few around here in the Cascades but they are mainly 4 walls...just enough to get one out of the wind/rain/snow and what ever weather needs hiding from. That's hardly ever too much sun!

Hi Josh, you'll love your visit there. It's a magical place. I've taken Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts, my daughter's 10th birthday was an overnight there. I've brought family and friends, my yoga group, etc. Always fun; a new adventure every time.
