I live in a 21-story condo building. The Board, after taking over from the developer, started making arrangements with suppliers and servicers. They were wowed by a cable provider who promised to put his wiring at no cost to the association. So, they could choose to have their own wiring, but it would cost money. Aren’t they there to save money?
So, they saved, or, better say, they bought this free cheese. 4 years later, they are extremely unhappy with the “service”. Choice of channels and quality is terrible, and when you pay close to nothing, your internet speed is close to nothing, too. So, they decided to switch to AT&T. More channels, good quality, excellent speed.
But not so fast. The wiring is not theirs. It is already 6 months, and the current provider got the injunction and AT&T can't put their lines until June this year. Meanwhile watching videos on the Internet is out of the question, and any other activity on the internet is close to a halt
That’s how we ended up with the "service" which is as good as what you paid for it. This is 21st century but it feels like a dial-up modem, and not the fastest dial-up. Every time I want to watch a video on Active Rain, I try, and then have to stop, and no matter how many times I do it, I will not get to the end.
This is one of the drawbacks of living in a condominium. You are subject to collective wisdom… or collective lack thereof…
When buying a condo, look not for cheese, look for a mousetrap.
How tasty was our free cheese?
