One More Unfactual Comment on QR Codes

Reblogger Charita Cadenhead
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty

My friend Sussie here thinks that QR Codes are a fad.  I'm not quite sure I agree with her YET.  As agent we are tempted to try so many things that seem to be exciting and the ONE that will garner us great results.

But like I said on Sussie's post, at least QR Codes won't break the bank.

There have been several post here on Active Rain concerning the use of QR Codes. The plus' and minus' have been posted and re-posted. The ups and downs and the good and the bads....BUT....

Even though I can see the benefit of using QR Codes.... I have this nagging FEELING that won't go away; that this system will not last and will be branded a FAD.

ANY COMMENTS?

I don't see it as a fad as much as I see it as a tool to be used in the proper place. Ideally it is intended on print material for smart-phone users when they are away from the office or their computer. Say if you had it on the back of your card or on a flyer with your contact info inbedded, a smart phone user could just scan the code and all your info is placed in their contacts without having to type it in, much simpler, faster and eliminates typing errors. It could be placed on a listing sheet where you could just scan and save, reducing your need to print. I vote useful tool, not fad.

I completely disagree, I have said it before and I will say it again, QR codes applied correctly are a great tool. I think the problem is that people are misusing them. I have seen people put QR codes on their websites, that is not a good use of a QR codes. Putting them on a yard sign to send people to a tour of the inside of the house, I can see that. Techology is about correctly using the tools ....they are here to stay and once the uses become more apparent, they will flourish

Brian I would tend to agree with you.  I think many people are using it improperly and thus don't see the benefit in it.  Your ideas on its usage are great and ideally suited for QR Codes.

Gerry I'm on your side and Brian's.  I have not implemented QR codes in a big way.  I do use them on my direct marketing postcards to expired listings.  I just recently began that campaign and I am hoping that the QR codes is going ot pay off big.  I have to laugh Gerry everytime I see a QR code on someone's website that will send a scanner right back to the same website.

Ann I am seeing QR codes in the newspaper, on college campuses and various other places.  It's catching on fast.

WOW! Something I said generated a lot of discussion.... that is great!

I think the reason I feel that QR codes will be a fad is:

  • because in my area, I don't see them on yard signs
  • I have not received any mail with a QR Code on them

I do agree that these QR Codes are being misused or rather not being used to their potential and that if people learn how to use them right then maybe, just maybe it will last longer....

I am waiting to see what happens.

Sussie we'll see what happens.  I am beginning to see them a lot in my area.  Not so much in real estate but elsewhere.  Everybody wants to save money.
