SOLD in Haiku - Pe'ahi Farms

Pe'ahi Farms on Maui has just closed it's very first sale, marking a turning point in this spectacular new project in Haiku.  Lot 3, a prime oceanfront 3.25 acres, closed on October 5th for $2,100,000.

The developers Holt and Everhart claim to specialize in the creation of socially responsible villages and mixed use developments.  Their vision for Pe'ahi Farms is to tackle the fine line between development and preservation of diverse agri-business, in a traditional agricultural setting.  They hope to achieve a preservation of open space, while increasing the opportunities for enterprising Maui agri-business.

Pe'ahi Farms is a 240 acre site at Opana Point, on the windward coast of Maui.  About 180 acres of the parcel will be dedicated to farm use, and is currently open fields and deep gulches.  In the future this may be converted to a diversity of marketable crops, a native plant nursery, and cattle pastures.  The remaining land has been subdivided into 15 fee simple AG lots of varying sizes ranging from 2.69 acres to 9.2 acres.  There will be building restrictions to ensure a quality neighborhood, and to maintain the ocean view corridors.

The Farm hopes to employ alternative methods of power production like wind turbines and photo-voltaics, as the location lends itself well to this endeavor.  The Farm will also promote green principles like organic farming and water conservation, while working with the community to educate the public.

Here on Maui, AG zoning allows for a homeowner to build a main house of any size, an additional farm workers dwelling up to 1,000 sf, and other farm related buildings.  When submitting house plans for approval from the building department, you will be expected to submit a farm plan outlining your strategy for using your land.  If you have any questions about Pe'ahi Farms, or about buying land and building a home on Maui, please inquire for more information.
