Well, some say they think the market will drop even farther or there are another wave of foreclosures about to hit the market. In this area of Florida, I do not see any evidence of this. In fact, quite the opposite is occuring. New Home sales were up 14.56% for same period as last year and the prices for these new homes were up 24.98%.
In the resale category of homes, they were up 9.52% and prices up just slightly at 1.48%.
My market has a lot of townhomes and condos in it. We are considered a perfect resort destination and because of this a lot of second home buyers and investors alike love this market. For the month of May total number of condos and townhomes wer up 23.51%. Wow, looks like we have recovered well and prices were up 15.45%.
Land, which they don't make any more were up 1.5% and prices up 20.93%.
The total number of Lis Pendens which are official notices of an upcoming foreclosure were down 62.95% in the month of May and the total number of foreclosures were down 20.20%.
I know that statistics can be somewhat boring at times, but these numbers are nothing but encouraging to a recovering economy. Even our local Walmart just put 200 new employees to work here in South Walton County. It is quite evident by the number of cars on the road that people are coming here from everywhere this year. The addition of direct flights into Valpariso (VPS) on the new Vision Airliines is helping to fuel our economy now and then there is always Panama City Beach new International Airport (ECP) with Southwest Airlines flying daily non-stop flights too.
