Lucky Is The Man That Knows Where To StandLucky is the man that knows where to stand! Some where after 200 BC, Archimedes said " Give me where to stand and I will move the earth." He later revised it to the more familiar "Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth."

Never is this so true as when looking at our fathers.

Every one that has ever moved the world, if only their minute share of it was standing in the shadow of their father!

I can only speak of my Father and my late Grandfathers who always knew where to stand!

Dad huddled over me and cuddled me.

Dad stood in praise of me.

Dad stood between me and harm.

Dad stood beside me holding my hand as I learned to walk.

Dad stood nervously as I tried to run.

Dad stood beside my first bike.

Dad stood to helped me on my horse and he stood ready to pick me up and put me back on. Again and again.

Dad stood by me when I need him even when I didn't know it.

Dad stood behind when I took risks.

Dad sat beside me when I learned to drive and he still does! (From 1,600 miles away.)

Dad moved my world and he still does.

Dad I love you!

Many Dads William you are right with where they stand. They are the ROCKS of the family, sturdy and solid. Thank you for sharing about your father and Happy Father's Day.

Father's day is always sort of a non day for me. My father died when I was five and I have no memory of him.

I was the oldest and after a while I was "the man of the house", and I think that just made me the default baby sitter for my younger siblings. Mom was always away working to keep us together. Did a darn good job for sure. Mother's day always got all of the attention at my house.

Mom always would tell us, if we asked, stories about my father, though. He was from Sweden, was very well educated, spoke three or four languages, and was a highly skilled architect. Would have been nice to know him.

William, what a wonderful tribute to men in your life. You still have your parents with you, and what a blessing it is.

I did not live with my father, and there was no man to hold my hand, and stand beside me. Grandparents were wiped out by Nazis

I did  not feel the void as I did not know what I was missing. I think I know  it now.

You wrote a wonderful blog

Jon,

I'm so sorry. I too am the oldest of 5 and I understand.

Mon and Dad are a team, but they are different.

I hope you had the oppertunity to Father your children.

Jon,

I know your story. Your proof that you can turn out great it's just much harder.

I'll bet your kids and Grandson feel as I do.

Bill, I could have been a great dad, but I did not know how, so I was an OK dad, I guess. Still way better than no dad.

Jon,

We are who we are. I'll bet your kids don't complain! With luck you've got another 40 years.

Remember what the army says "Be all that you can be!"

Any one that can legally move his family the way you did can't be bad.

We all have many things we'd like to have done, most involve money. I always wanted to teach my kids to fly it's a major disappointment to me not them.

Bill it is not easy being a Dad.  Dad have to know when to protect, but they also need to know when to let you fail.  The protecting part is easy, when compared to the failing part.

Happy Father's Day.

Hi Bill, What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man in your life, your Dad. He would be very proud (hope you show this to him) as I am sure he is proud when he talks about his Son. I hope he lives to celebrate so many more Fathers Days.
