Yesterday was our (My Donald and I) anniversary. I planned to not work. I had an agent who scheduled to be there at the office, life happened, she called another agent in my office who did cover... then work happened. My phone rang at 9:15 and I was still in my pjs. Agent says... computer won't connect to Internet. Need to access my email to print addendum... client expected in 15 minutes. I walked in 20 minutes later and got the computer back "finding" the signal from the wireless router.
Uh oh, I got a phone call and I've messed up. I have an out of our MLS agent who has sold one of our listings who has picked up a key to open home for the inspector. Hmmmmm, I was busy getting ready for a 5 p.m. showing appointment on Tuesday and put the WRONG key in the envelope for her. My fault, so I hop in my car and drive her over the right key. Back to office. Looking over the addendum to make sure all i's are dotted and t's are crossed. (I'll get out of here soon, I'll get out of here soon)
Phone call... will be getting the counter offer today on offer I wrote last week via email (shortly) Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Finally at nearly lunch time it arrives. I call and leave message for my buyer. He calls me back when he gets a break at work and we discuss it. Nope, he'll move on to another house so I'm finally going to get to leave work on my "day off".
So I drive to Bayne's Army Store. Yeah, I know, I should done it sooner, but I'm terrible about these things. Dang it they are closed on Wednesdays. Now how the heck can I buy my husband a gun for our anniversary. Bummer. My back up plan is Bass and Antler Pawn Shop... go ahead... laugh at me. Who knew everyone in town who sells guns was closed on Wednesday. Because apparently it wasn't me.
So then I stop at the local liquor store to buy my Donald some good Scotch. Glenfiddich is what he likes. They are out. I am not driving back to town at this point. Ain't gonna happen. So I go home with just some trinket things. I feel like the worst gift giver ever. I give him the card, the chocolate, the targets and then I explain that I procrastinated and didn't plan well and he hugs me and makes it all better.
My gift... my REAL gift... is not the gift at all (which was a lovely dinner out, Dipped Fruit from edible fruits and 3 books and a very sweet Hallmark(bring tears to your eyes card), but my real gift was the note. Inside the book 101 Amazing Things about Love that my Donald gave me are these words...
Tammy,
Sometimes I'm about and about and I find something that makes me smile remembering the way we were. The marker in this book is set where I found it. I wonder if you would've spent a whole day on the phone with me. Was I that interesting? Happy Anniversary
I love you.
Don
When you turn to the page that is marked with the satin ribbon it says:
Long Distance Love can be very, very expensive. It goes on to tell a tale of a Dane who found himself facing jail time for not paying his $117,000 phone bill. His sweetheart was in India.
My romance with My Donald began with an ocean between us. And yes, I had some ridiculousphone bills back a decade ago. Where was Vonage when I needed them? Oh wait... not invented yet. But since January of 2001 there has been no need for high phone bills and since June 29, 2002 we've been happily ever after....
