Hurricane season is here. Be prepared. When ordered to leave, don’t leave your pet or use your pet as an excuse not to evacuate. Plan ahead and take with you the Hurricane-Pet Survival Kit.

1. Proper ID collar and rabies tag/license
2. Up to date vaccination paperwork
3. Carrier or cage large enough for your pet to move around.
4. Leash
5. Food supply for 2 weeks
6. Water
7. Water/food bowls
8. Manual can opener
9. Necessary medication and instruction
10. News papers, cat litter, scoop, plastic trash bags for handling waste
11. Proper ID on all belongings
12. Photo of you and your pet
13. Comfort item - favorite toy or blanket
Not all shelters accepts pets. Check out your options. Contact your local SPCA, Animal Control or Humane Society. It is very important that your pet has had all his/her shots within the past 12 months for each pet. Pet friendly shelters and boarding facilities will require proof of vaccination otherwise entry will be denied.

After the storm has passed, beware of allowing your pet outdoors. Familiar landmarks & scents have changed, your pet may get confused and become lost. Contaminated water may poison your pet, and downed power lines may cause harm or kill your pet.
