We didn’t always have John Deer tractors in our lives to make farming easier with their large wheels and huge horse power. Before there was horsepower, well, there was horsepower and the tools we had to plow the fields were pulled by one, maybe two horses, but, that was all the horse power it needed.
Todd, great reminder of the days long forgotten. I hope with the way the world is heading, we don't end up there again. This time Without horses!
Here in the Gettysburg Pa area, the Amish and Mennonite communities still use horses for field and buggies. It is pretty cool to see
Todd, So very true, less than 100 years ago, most of the farm work in rural Utah was done by actual horse power.
So much easier and so much more productive with the John Deer as well as better for the horse.

I've spent may a day on a mower like that!
Behind a tractor of course. Except for taking two people they worked just as good as the PYO tractor mounted ones.
That big John Deere 50 with the large wheels and huge horse power, all of 28.11 horse power at the drawbar.
The last horse drawan mower I saw being used was 3 years ago, by a team on an Amish Farm in central Michigan. Never have seen one with fills, for a single hosre, all had toungs for a team.

What a good reminder of how far we have come. Both of my grandfathers had mowers like that, I can remember my Mothers father using his with a team of mules. But then as our daughter like to remind I was born in the 1st half of the last century.
Todd, there are still some Amish farms up in Pennsylvania that use horse-power for their farming.
Everyone is always talking about horsepower this horsepower that. I would take ox power anyday of the week and twice on Saturday! Are they easier to control then a horse??? lol ( J )
