San Diego's Halloween Celebration Goes Far Beyond Haunted Houses

One thing you can count on is San Diego being creative when it comes to its

Halloween Celebrations. Along with the offerings of haunted houses, San Diego has in store something special that actually might scare you.

The Haunted Star of India

This photo of the Star of India taken yesterday and edited in Picnik.com

The Star of India, said to be haunted will host lantern lead tours that feature tales of its seafaring past and the ghosts that haunt it's bowels. The tours will be held on Fridays and Saturdays during October and will last about 45 minutes. The tours go from 6PM to 10PM and are included in the general admission and any and all ghost sightings are free.

If you are into being scared, you won't want to miss this opportunity to possibly encounter some real ghosts that haunt this ship.

Hi Lynda, It is especially useful to do these fast little tricks for special occasions. It would take me a month of Sundays to do this with Photoshop, :-)

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for dropping by. I am quite sure this will be one of the better  events for the holiday. Though Old Town San Diego and the haunted Whaley House will be running a close second.

Hi William

I was there 2 weeks ago and it is quite an impressive ship. I did research on it and it has had quite a violent history. Perhaps it is haunted as one of the captain died on the ship. Who knows who else may have died there.................Scary stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Endre, These old ships have quite a history and certainly this one is believed haunted but  those that have experienced it suggested that there are several spirits that hang around there. The lantern tours may actually cause them to appear, :-)

Hi William, The tours of The Star of India are probably pretty scary after dark. Love how you took that already cool photo and gave it that spooky look!

Hi Cindy,The lantern tours after dark are very cool. Being on the water and the sounds and creaks  already there and then being dark to boot, makes this one of the best efforts ever for a haunted experience.

In regards to the photo, I have been messing with Picnik for a few years now and each year it actually gets a bit better and expanded to do more things. While I use Aperture and Photoshop for more detailed work, Picnik is still a great little program. And it provides affects like this that would take hours in Photoshop and not possible at all in Aperture. As you know , the coolest part is that is takes seconds for the adjustments to create these effects.

Hi Jeanean,

WOW, Thank you so much ! It sounds like you may have liked this, LOL. Seriously is was very easy and I didn't do much but add on a couple of fun effects available through Picnik.

Just so you have a reference, here is the original photo.

Star of India

Notice the Halloween ( Ghosts) Design on the torn Sail. It looks like I added it but I didn't, it is there in original photo taken in daylight, :-)
