Thank You Dominion Electric.

I have read about our ActiveRain friends who have been without electricity for a week now with no relieve in sight.  George just got power restored after 5 days.  That's rough.

I was without power in Bethesda, MD for 4 days some time ago following Hurricane Isabel and it was hard to deal with.  Of course, you deal with it.

Since moving into my house, I regularly lost electricity every time the wind was more than 15 MPH or there was an electrical storm.

However, for the past 2 years, I HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE OUTAGE.  I have lost computer reception because I have a dish.  I have lost TV reception, another dish.  But, power has not been interrupted.  If I was so inclined, I could have vacuumed my house.

Driving the roads of Loudoun County, I have observed the Dominion Electric crews out there trimming trees and vegetation around and under power lines along the roads.  Downed tree limbs was always the cause of outages in the past.  All I can say is:

THANKS DOMINION ELECTRIC for doing a great job.

Above are just a couple of picture to show the amount of snow that we received here in Middletown Connecticut this past Saturday.  We had about 8" of snow, but parts north of us got over 20" which is unheard of around here this time of the year.

I can only remember one other time in my life time that we got a significant amount of snow in October, and that was in October of 1978, but even though it was a significant amount of snow in 1978, it was not as much as we just got.  This snow storm would rival most of the snow storms that we get during the peak of Winter.  I hope that this is not an indication of the type of Winter that we are going to have, but it is not what I would consider a good start.

This snow storm created more damage than any other that I can remember.  The damage was so extensive that 7 days late as much as 90% of the residence of some towns are still without power, and I are not talking about small rural towns, I am talking about towns like Farmington, and West Hartford.

CL&P is saying that 99% of Connecticut will have power back by Sunday night, but something tells me that they will fall far short of that goal.  This is a time for those of us that have had our power restored need to reach out to those that are still without, and offer a warm place to sleep, as well as a warm/hot shower.

I am a DOM stockholder and they are AWESOME.  I have the Central VA Coop for my home and well electricity and a whole house generator.  The Coop is great when power goes out; however, without power I have no lights, WATER or heat or AC so electricity is very important or my dogs and I have to relocate into town with my sister and 3 cats - not a fun prospect.

Dominion crews were some of the first on the road after Katrina and they are VISIBLE and very FAST in diagnosing and correcting problems.  DITTO!

Lenn- ah yes... it brings back memories of my 4 years in Leesburg.  The first snow we had, I was on a saucer racing down my back slope.  Never lost power, and I agree.. thank you Dominion.

Yeah for George! And good for you that Dominion Electric is trimming those trees. I had someplace to go, I could deal with much but not the no flush thingy.... just sayin...

I had a kerosene heater, but it is not working right now, need to fix that asap. No heat is no fun.

Hi Lenn.    We just got power back two days ago.   It is a challenge for sure, but like you said, we deal.   I know many people complain about the light company workers, but my Dad used to be one and I know first hand how hard they work and the hours the put in during an emergency.

Lenn thank you for the re-blog.

Connecticut needs to do a better job of trimming back the trees like your power company Dominion Electric.

Lenn-thanks so much for the reblog. I am going next to comment to George since we live in CT also. We apparently had 12 inches of snow here, and had no power through Wednesday night, but since we now have a generator, we did not suffer much.

Hi Lenn - It was quite a storm and the roads got very bad, very fast.  There was a very nasty fatal accident about a 1/2 a mile south of me.  I heard six ambulances respond and there were three fatalities.  This storm was nothing to mess with.  I was VERY fortunate not to lose power.  People all around me were out.

Lenn,  Those snowy pictures look like something from my yard.  We expect snow in Colorado, in fact, we are due for more tonight.  But in your neck of the woods I would think this is rather rare.  Stay warm and bundle up!
