Over on SoundBiteBlog, I just posted an article entitled 'Developing Your Social Media Plan.'Developing-a-Social-Media-Plan

It's become quite obvious that participating in various forms of social media engagement can have a very positive affect on expanding your sphere and growing potential business. Unfortunately, all too many times, we attempt to employ new marketing ventures using our old traditional methods. It's like putting a square peg in a round hole, the two just don't fit!

Understanding the what & why of social media is a crucial first step in effectively leveraging the power of Internet-based platforms, tools, and technologies.

In my post, you'll discover:

Creating something someone in the audience can use. If you want to nudge, catch the corner of their eye and gain their attention means asking yourself "can anyone relate to it"? Is it worth their time, does it save them gas, resources, help educate and provide value? Satisfy a need? Have a worthwhile purpose? Is it creative, with a little bit of fun in the delivery? Or is it a hurried, total self promotion mirror mirror on the wall piece? There are enough of those bombarding like asteroids, Scud missiles as you scan your email, side bar on blog post rosters. Genuine helpful trumps store bought spun sameness, predictability in user experiences. Your on line reader is way way smarter than you may be giving them credit for.

Rich - your take on social media and a marketing plan is very thought provoking. I am probably guilty of the "shot gun" approach at times. My 2012 goal is to be more purposeful which means defining my audience, my focus and what I hope to achieve with social media. Thanks
