David, our friends’ son, bought this condo in Ossining (with the view of Hudson River and the infamous prison Sing-Sing), loved his unit but hated the idea that someone would come and take a unit above him.
Being a music fan (and who isn’t?), he came with a rather “unique” idea to make this second floor unit unattractive to buyers. He would turn his amplifier all the way, and that was supposed to be a deterrent to potential buyers.
Insulation wasn’t the best in the world, and I am sure that the music was sure heard in that second floor unit.
I can’t say that the plot did not work, it did, but in rather weird way. There were a few people who were turned off by a loud music from the unit downstairs, but finally they met their match.
Those people bought this unit because they thought that finally they would not have to deal with all those complaints on loud music.
I guess those buyers loved loud music even more than Michael. They loved their downstairs neighbors.
Now David did not even have to turn on the music, it was there. The only difference now David could not just turn it off… His level of comfort was hardly much higher than for those in Sing-Sing…
The musical contest did not last long. Michael jumped on the offer to work in Australia for 3 years. Part of the deal was that he gave his unit to his company, and got his money.
Just gotta be careful with “unique” ideas
