Funny how things just happen. Today I received an e-mail from my step-mother who lives in Florida. We havn't spoken in a couple of weeks and she also works in real estate.  She and my father owned a real estate firm up here in Hampstead, NH and when he died in 1990, she stayed here for a few years and then re-located down to Florida.  After reading Craig Shiller's post this morning The Gift of Tears, I started to think of family who have passed on. My father, my two brothers and other family and friends we've lost over the years when I received this e-mail from my stepmother.

Jim and I were talking the other day about a particularly bleak article in the morning paper about the business downturn.  I mentioned the hot dog story and went into my computer to try to find it.  I was sure I had it but I couldn’t find it.  A little while later he was standing here at the counter talking with Terry when I just happened to check out your blog. The tears just started coming as there it was right in front of me.  It surely gave me an eerie feeling.  I don’t check your blog routinely and I don’t know why I chose that moment to do so.  Do you believe in messages from the grave?  Sometimes I do and this was one of those times!

Funny how things happen...through Active Rain she found "The Man Who Sold Hot Dogs" story when she really needed to find it...a message from above??? Maybe so, but what are the odds, that on this day she'd suddenly start reading my blog and finding the story that meant so much to my dad all those years ago...is he sending us a message. I'd like to think so. That Hot Dog story sends a powerful message.

That's a really cool story Jay. It is weird how life works out sometimes. My dad called in on a radio station once for men's health issues and I took the day off and randomly listened to that am station..I heard him live and almost had a heart attack...

Update: Hey Jay, looks like both of our stories got featured today, pretty cool! Have a great day!

Hi Scott, thanks for reading and life can be very weird at times. Listening to men's health issues and nearly having a heart attack wouldn't have been cool.

How was your trip to Hawaii? Too short I bet.

Thanks Jay

Jay that gave me some goosebumps. I have heard some other 'from the gut' stories this week and this one really seems...karmic.  I think the internet can in many respects really give us opportunities that blow our minds.  Great post!  And you touched me so much with that hot dog story!

Karen will really like this post you know.

This is synchronicity. Some things happen and it just seems as if they were planned.

I believe things go down the way they are supposed to go down. :)

Jay - how nice that she found that just when she needed, and how wonderful that you had written it for her to find............all things happen for a reason.

Jay, I was compelled to read the story. I missed it a couple of weeks ago.

There are things that happen for unexplained reasons at times in our lives that turn out to be The best thing that could have happened at that moment. I like to believe that we are guided and watched over from above and that that these are little reminders to focus our lives.

Well I read this post and got a chill. And yes again I was going to say "synchronicty" (the second time on one of your blogs Jay, what's up with that?)

Then I read the comments and TLW has already realized what I would be thinking, more Synchronicity there.

I need to find a shorter version of that word if this keeps happening:)

Hi Karen, one of those weeks I guess. Just call it insynch.

That photo was taken by me and of course Monika says she took it. It was taken in November of 1990 we were on our 2nd honeymoon together. We bare boated (chartered) a 44' sailboat with another couple and sailed from St. Thomas all the way to the Bitter Ends and back on a 10 day trip; that has been the best vacation we ever took. This is one of my favorite photos I have taken. Noticed I said I have taken.

Thanks Jay

Sounds like a great trip! My brother has a 44foot Jeneau and if you have some time (takes about 5 minutes, my husband took the pictures and I put them together) of one of our trips to Marthas Vinyard. Thr reason it takes so long is it was done a few years ago with old software, but you'll get the jist of it.

Hi Karen, I enjoyed that. I liked how the photos faded out. It almost looked like fog rolling out and the new photos appear. Pretty nice. We have pictures of the Newport bridge too almost at that angle. Newport is one of our favorite places to go for a quick weekend jaunt. Maybe we'll head down there next spring. Take another tour of the summer homes of the rich and famous.

Thanks Jay

Perhaps it is the time of year, that causes us to take notice of the the things we hold dearest and those we miss the most.

Jay, I think it is the time of year and we start thinking about those that have gone before us.  My dads been on my mind quite a bit too.  I sometimes think they send us messages...

Allison I never thought of it as being the time of year but it does make good sense. The Holidays sure do bring out the best and worst in some people. I also wonder if it's not that I'm getting older and a little more sentimental. Thanks Jay

Hi Chris yes, I think it is ironic and I think you're right they do send us timely random acts of messages that lead us to what we need. Thanks Jay

Jay... I really think there are no accidents.

I have found that more and more answers "come" to questoins we ask.

It might not be the answer we hoped for or come as fast as we like... but they come.

We just need to be open... and when we are open other things come too.

Jay, Your father was very insightful to have shared that story with you since it has so much meaning and will continue as the years pass by. And what a wonderful memory. All things happen for a reason...perhaps this was his way of reaching out to you through your step-mother. Hope it brought a smile to your face.

Gena  yes it did bring a smile to my face and indeed he was probably telling us something. I think about him often and I do miss his wisdom. When it came to real estate he was the king on how to close people. Always looking out for his clients needs before his.

William  I did see your comment over at Scott's and I guess all I can say is those are pretty powerful words.

Thanks Jay

Hi Dave and Tonya, glad you made it back home ok. Sometimes when we go away we feel we need a vacation just to rest up after the vacation. How was your jet lag? Awful long flight I'm sure. I'm sure your family was glad to see you.
