Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great - Reason #3

"The fog comes on little cat feet ...."
This January morning is a good example of just how quickly the weather changes. This first picture was taken around 7:30 AM. You can see the top of Mount Tamalpais on the left, Tiburon in the middle, and Angel Island on the right:

fog over San Francisco Bay

By 8:10 AM the view had changed to this, with just a hint of Mt. Tam showing:

fog over San Francisco Bay

Last shot, at 8:33 AM:

fog over San Francisco Bayk

Absolutely beautiful! The ephemeral nature helps one focus on the present, and enjoy what IS.

Carl Sandberg's poem says it best:

Fog

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Lottie - I am actually in CA right now . . .took the grandkids to Disneyland.  I must say, it IS all about the weather! I love your "reasons to live in SF" series.  I might have to do something like that when I get back to Spokane!

Lottie,  I actually experienced this from my son's living room window in Pacific Heights.  He loves living in San Francisco!  I enjoy visiting :-)

Why did I think your son lived in Pacifica or HMB, Kathleen? Where in Pac Heights is he? We're at Jackson & Van Ness.

Peggy, we're very fortunate to be where we are. I didn't know how much I'd enjoy a view--I'm glad my husband did! (I was opting to be on a staircase!)

Lottie--I have only been to SF twice and both time the weather has been beautiful.  Love the views in your photos.

Temp here in Erie has been 24 most of day, but the wind makes it feel more like zero.  Brrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I lived in Marina District --- I thoroughly enjoyed the views, especially from the roof top of our apartment bulding on Casa Way. Watching the fog roll in and roll out, and see the Golden Gate framed by the glow of the moonlinght....spectacular

Char, the fog adds drama to the day--as well as acts as our natural air conditioner.

Pacita, sounds like you changed one down-by-the-bay lifestyle for another one! There's something about being near water ----

Lottie - you have to love the way the fog rolls in and out cradled in the valley below the peeks of hills or mountains giving you the impression of being above the clouds.

Roy, I've always loved that little poem. I don't know if Sandberg was writing about San Francisco in particular, but it surely fits. Do come visit--you'd find a wealth of subjects for photographing, including the lovely Strybing Aboretum

Kathy, the fog is mesmerizing, and often adds a bit of mystery to a view. Makes me think of Brigadoon.
