Sharpen Your Ice Skates, Dust Off Your Sleds--It's Time for Winter Fun in Glenview!

SleddingIf you have the desire this winter to do a bit of sledding or ice skating, now is the time to watch for snow and plan your day at one of the sledding hills that are part of the Glenview Parks District. If there have been several days of sub-freezing temperatures, the ice rinks will be flooded by park personnel. Once flooding commences, it takes approximately three days for the ice to be safe for skating.

Here is the low-down on which parks have sledding hills and/or outdoor ice skating rinks:

Sledding Hills:
Flick Park, 3600 Glenview Road
Johns Park, 2101 Central Road

Outdoor Ice Skating:
Flick Park, 3600 Glenview Road
Johns Park, 2101 Central Road
Roosevelt Park, 2200 Grove Street
Cole Park, 1031 Kenilworth Lane

Except for Cole Park, all others are lighted and stay open for fun until 10 p.m. None of the hills or rinks in Glenview are monitored by sledding or ice skating guards, so be sure you know the rules for safe ice skating and sledding.  And, parents, plan to supervise young kids. There are no warm cabins offering hot chocolate and soup either, so please dress warmly!

Wondering if the particular park you want to go to is open? You can call 847-724-3337, option 4, after 10:30 a.m. for current conditions of sledding hills and ice skating rinks. If you're planning to be out anyway, throw the skates and sleds in the car, since the parks post signs at their entrances denoting open or closed status.

After a day of winter fun in Glenview, won't it be nice to go to your own cozy home to kick back and warm up? If you're looking for a new abode in Glenview, contact the Marla Schneider team online or by phone at 847-657-3790.  We know the best houses for skaters, sledders and everyone else in Glenview, Northbrook or Wilmette.
