Sex-Offenders Info / Megan's Law/
In many states, including California, sellers must disclose facts that might materially affect the value or desirability of the property. If it is public knowledge that sex offenders live in that area, it can make property less marketable.
Here are websites where you can find such information:
Family Watchdog: http://www.familywatchdog.us/
U.S. Department of Justice's National Sex Offender Public Website: http://www.nsopw.gov
They are FREE.
There are also many mobile apps, but you probably will be required to pay few dollars. It is up to you what you prefer to use.
But, please, consider this information:
~~ Check carefully ( if possible) the reason a person is on that list.
There is a chance, she/he is not 'high risk creepy criminal' but someone who made mistake, it is just too easy to get on that list. See examples:
1) A person can wind up on the registry for urinating in public.
It is gross, but .....is it crime?
2) Streaking.
Gross too, but in 32 states can land a fool on the list of sex-offenders.
3) Teens. A lot of boys end up the list for having sex with their younger girlfriends and getting caught.....
Etc.
And now......what is really shocking:
Nearly 90% of all crimes against children are committed by a family member or other people they know( according to David Finkelhor, Director of Research Center The Crimes Against Children)
Knowledge is power. But use it with caution.....
Do educate yourself to protect your family.
