14504 Elm St. Historic Upper Marlboro Home is Sold and Settled

 14504 Elm St Upper Marlboro

Known as the Jarboe-Bowie House, 14504 Elm St has deep roots and history in the Upper Marlboro area of Prince George County.

The Bowie house was owned by one of the most prominent of Maryland families. Washington Augusta Bowie was the godson of President George Washington. Oden Bowie and his son Robert Bowie were both Governors of Maryland. Their relative Bezin Bowie, was Governor of Tennessee.

Much of what is now Washington DC was once called Bowieville. Colonel Ninean Beall, who once owned the land where the Bowie house now sits, also owned the land where the White House is located. He sold the land to the federal government to build the Presidents mansion for the new Federal City. Colonel James 'Jim' Bowie, perhaps the most famous of the Bowie family members, died at the Alamo in 1836.

Today the Jarboe-Bowie house at 14504 Elm St  is a shell of its former self and in need of total rehab. The Prince George County Planning Commission offers Grant Programs to help in the purchase and/or rehab of historic properties which you may want to check out.

The Jarboe- Bowie house is located on one of Upper Marlboro's beautiful residential streets in the historic area and within walking distance of downtown, the lake and county government buildings.

Congrats on another home sale in Bowie!  It's nice to know there are still historical treasures out there.
