The Florida Library Association has recognized Sarasota's County Library System as the "2012 Library of the Year." The association applauded Sarasota's libraries for its community building through partnerships and collaboration.
Sarasota County offers nine libraries, jointly serving more than 2.5 million residents and visitors each year.
Sarasota's library system has recently achieved several important goals.
- The library collection now offers eBooks and eAudiobooks
- Renovations are complete on the system's largest library, Selby Public Library
- Construction is complete on the system's first Teen Center, a facility designed by and specifically for teens.
- A Library Foundation of Sarasota County has been established
The award will be presented at the Florida Library Association 2012 Annual Conference in Orlando.
