Cyber-Safety Tools for Protecting Your Kids and Grandkids

As the result of my February 2010 Activerain post, Win $500 for suggesting the name of a start-up company, countless numbers of Activerain members clicked through to suggest names for my sons' new company.  We were truly blown away by the interest and participation from Activerain.  Finally, more than a year later, UKnow.com is about to launch.

This new venture is the positive result of a very unfortunate situation in our family - when my grandson was targeted by an online predator. 

My son Tim noticed that his 14-year old boy was spending "too much" time texting, so he put his cyber-safety expertise to work and found that his son was, indeed, being solicited for sex.  He took his son's computer, cell phone, and sleuthing results to authorities, who investigated further and determined this person was a middle school teacher in another county who had not only solicited, but also assaulted, countless children over a number of years.  This predator, who might still be soliciting and assaulting children if my son had not interceded, has since pleaded guilty to a number of counts and been sentenced to 40 years in jail.

Tim and his brother Steve have put their cyber-safety expertise and business experience to work for YOUR family now, by providing tools to help parents protect their kids against bad guys and bullies online and on their mobile phone.  Their new company, UKnow.com, is getting ready to launch, and they've asked their family, friends, and business associates to help spread the word.  So that's what I'm doing now.

Maybe there will never be a problem with cyber-safety in your family, and the only benefit of UKnow.com will be your peace of mind.  No one believes something like this will happen in their family.  We certainly didn't.   Yet it did - and no harm came to my grandson because his father had the knowledge and expertise to stop the predator in time.
