jacaranda tree in Santa Barbara

After a glorious sunny weekend, we have started the week off with sporadic rain showers, and today with drizzly moments.  As we were off on errands, I noticed rows of jacarandas starting to bloom and they lit up the grey skies.  In another week or two, we will be treated to even more of this glorious blue/purple blooms as the trees fill out with leaves and the flowers open.

Happy Tuesday, Happy May Day! Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

Hi A & R -

A gloomy day now and then can be a nice change.  Crystal clear blue sky here and sitting on a comfortable 82.  Enjoyed your colorful tree... quiet nice!  Have a great afternoon.

Alexandra- I have been especially enjoying these recent posts of your's, which feature scenes around Santa Barbara.  Like so many of Roy Kelley's pictures, I continue to learn new species of plant life, if not everyday, at least once a week. . .LOL

"Jacarandas" - That's definitely a new one for me! I had to put my glasses on before I pronounced it a second time however. . .I was call it something entirely different. . .LOL

Alexandra and Ron, sometimes I find that overcast days are actually better for photographing some of the brilliant colors.  Thanks for this one!

Alexandra,

Growing up in Florida, we had a beautiful Jacaranda tree in our backyard.  My joints are feeling the change of weather that you're probably sending our way from Santa Barbara... g

A,

It has been raining in Fort Lauderdale since last Friday. I am sure the plants are happy, they are getting much needed water.

I go out of my way to drive down streets lined with jacaranda trees when they are in full bloom.

Good for you for finding beauty on a gray day--your eye is finely tuned to see and appreciate luxury in the simple moments of life.

We have jacarandas here too although not as many as I remember from LA, Alexandra. They are just so darn pretty and sure to brighten any day.

John,

Thanks for your comment, I am green with envy.  We had a momentary sun break, and then the clouds are back.  I like rain, and I know, the sun will come out sooner or later.  Have a great day. A

Lee,

I understand, we have friends who suffer from allergies.

Myrl,

Thank you for your kind words, and I love when Spanish speaking people call it HACARANDA!  I love them for their color and all of State Street downtown Santa Barbara is lined with these jacaranda trees coming into their full splendor.

Don,

Yes, I agree the light is more even.  Last Spring I posted a photo of a jacaranda with some bougainvillea that I took in the sun and it was amazing, so there are pros and cons.  That shot had the blue sky as a background and defined the purple.

Gordon,

I really love that pop of color.  I bet that tree in Florida is now enormous.

Patty,

Indeed the plants are happy, we are starting to see Mustard popping up because of the recent rains.

Aimee,

I so treasured that sun break for all of half an hour

Larry and Sheila,

Thanks for your comment, and I agree that SB rocks!

Norma,

We do the same, as it is so magical.  They are several streets in Beverly Hills, where the road turns blue because of all the dropping flowers.

Toni,

I agree, I really had my spirits lifted when I looked up and saw these. A

So, it was grey in California also?  On this particular day, I woke up extra early to photograph a listing to only end up with grey skies.  I'm delighted to see a wonderful example of how to show the beauty despite the grey skies.

Have a wonderful day.

I love to see a close up this flower. It is a beautiful color and I am really curious to see what it looks like up close.
