Some More Reasons To Use Evernote ... as if you needed more!

Some More Reasons To Use Evernote ... as if you needed more!

I must admit, that I vastly underrated the value of Evernote. I initially used it to jot down grocery needs, and as an atm spending register.  Evernote.com

Then I really graduated! I found out that you can really use Evernote not only as the repository of all things vital (like my birth certificate, and passport) but also for what the serial numbers are for my key boxes, their shackle release codes and on what listings they are on. For listings, buyers, sellers and escrow transactions. For tracking vendors and receipts and expenses. For blog ideas, musings and to save url clips of things you must read later.

I am now using it for my blog drafts and when the blog is finished , it becomes the needed back up for it, without having to physically save it somewhere. It has a full editor and even counts the words. It can record audio notes, too.

Evernote has a powerful search function that allows you to search for whatever you are looking for with only a shred of something that you can remember. PDFs also become searchable.

For example: I knew I had my shackle codes somewhere on my computer. But what was the name of the directory or the folder I put it in? What was the name of the file I gave it? Is this my new list or my old list (Evernote automatically saves a 'created date' and a 'last modified date').

In using it for Real Estate you can create a notebook for each client, or transaction, or address, or however it works best for you. Then you can keep everything that occurs in that transaction together in one spot for ease of convenience. Contracts and forms can be kept here, as well as expenses, receipts, checklists, emails, videos, audio, texts and photos. Amazing!!

Here is an example of a transaction for which a termite report and a termite completion had been emailed to Evernote (yes, you can do that, too).

As you can see, it is checked off and you can create a link for it (it works the same as a
hyperlink). So, let's say you are on the phone with your transaction coordinator or escrow officer and they ask if you have received the termite report  and the completion report. When you see it checked off, you know you have it, you click on the hyperling which brings it upand right from that note, you can email it to them (no more searching for the hard copy, scanning, then emailing). Especially if you are away from your desk, you can complete this task as if you were in the office and not on the golf course because since it syncs with all your devices, you can be anywhere. How simple is that?

How I use Evernote

I'm learning lots more about it and will report back!

I love evernote! I read their blog to see how others are using it and it gave me lots of ideas. Everyday, I am using it more and more. I think the hardest part is just deciding on how you want to organize your files. But you can move your notes and notebooks areound so that helps.

Hi Michele, yes it is very adaptable to your own work habits. I'm still tweaking mine all the time!

Hi Norma, Anytime! Just holler if you need help

Hi Mike, I was told that copy and paste from Word was not the best way, as it brings hidden formatting along with it and it sometimes causes problems. Evernote, google docs, Scribefire are just some of the ones that work better.

OK, I just installed Evernote onto my Mac. Evernote was previously to me, only an obscure Droid app. I pasted this entire post and comments to it. Turned out quite nicely. This could be promising.

Well today, I figured out that I can send my emails from my gmail to Evernote.  Everyone has a given email address with Evernote.  You go into your gmail and find the email you want to send to Evernote. Click onto that email - in the To box find your Evernote email addy in your contacts list.  Then in the Subject line type the notebook and tags to where you want your email to go.

Example:  @Cooking #pies #chocolate

Your email will then go directly to your Cooking Notebook with pie and chocolate tagged.

Very cool.

Hi Dave, it is promising and really helps you keep track of a lot of stuff! And you didn't even have to paste it. If you had the Evernote web clipper, you could have used it to copy the entire article, entire page or just the url into a new note. If you don't have this then you could just copy the url into a note. That way, when you click on the url you will see the latest comments as well.

Hi Brenda, congrats on doing it! I mentioned this in my post, but only in passing. I find that any email in a transaction can be copied (bcc) to the file, and in this way and then you have all the bits and pieces of a transaction together in one spot.
