Rotary Club of Spring Hill Meets Exchange Student from Italy
We were pleased to welcome a special guest this morning at our weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Spring Hill, Florida.
Eugenie Urso from Trieste, Italy, is currently participating in the Rotary Student Exchange program and was our guest speaker today. Trieste is a city in northeast Italy only about an hour and a half drive north of Venice. As part of the student exchange, Eugenie attends a Spring Hill High School and lives with her Rotary host family.
It was very interesting to listen to this young lady's observations about life in America from a different perspective. We realized once again that we take many things for granted that would appear privileged, amazing, or even somewhat strange to a person from another country and culture.
Likewise, we learned much about life, education, traditions and customs in Italy from our guest. Eugenie was a delight to listen to. Well spoken and nearly fluent in English, she shared her love for peanut butter (crunchy), smoothies, and High School sports with an enthusiasm that was nothing short of catching.
The Rotary Student Exchange program is another great example of the international involvement of Rotarians and one of the great opportunities Rotarians enjoy in meeting people from around the world right in our middle.
The guiding principle of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill, Florida, meets every Thursday at 7:45 AM at IHOP Restaurant, US 19/Commercial Way, in Spring Hill. Guests are welcome!
