Deadline for Homestead Tax Credit is December 31, 2012

The Homestead Tax Credit helps protects homeowners, regardless of age, income, or property value, from annually spiking tax bills on the home they live in.  Only homeowners who occupy the home they are applying for the tax credit on can qualify for the tax credit, it does not apply to tenant occupied properties.  As of August 1, 2012, about 65% of current Baltimore City homeowners have not yet applied for this according to Live Baltimore and the Baltimore Sun reported on September 10 that over 100,000 people in Maryland had yet to apply for this tax credit. Applications must be postmarked or received by December 31, 2012, or homeowners will lose this credit for the tax year beginning on July 1, 2013.
