Sailboat on the Hudson before a storm

If you live on the east coast and  you take photos - you learn to work with high cloud cover and make it work for you.   Westchester NY is no different particularly if you are photographing something on the Hudson River or the Long Island Sound. This time I used HDR-lite  and allowed myself a bit of poetic license with the color.  The clouds were a deep color, but perhaps a tad less vivid in real life. This was the case last weekend when I was taking photos on the Hudson River.  I admit I was tempting fate by playing a game of "chicken" with an on coming storm.  Oh - and I made it back under cover before the storm hit.  Don't know about the people in the boat though.... However the water was quite calm unlike the heavier storms a week earlier.

Good morning, Ruthmarie.  What a great picture of the Hudson.  The clouds look ominous.

Ruthmarie,

I love your photography.  I have a Nikon D90.  I have taken similar cloud cover pictures.  Playing with light and exposure yields awesome results.

Ruthmarie - I love your new copyright and signature on your photos.  Looks very professional.  Which photo fusion program do you use?  I use Photomatix.

Hi Debbie - I just missed the rain... They people on the boat were still there when I dove for cover.

Hi Grant - If we waited for great weather and cloud-free skies - we would never get out to shoot anything.  I use Canon products - Once you've started investing in camera glass - you tend to stick with the same line.  Though I really love canon products.

Hi Jennifer - Thanks.  Sunny days tend not to stay sunny anymore.

Hi Gail - This was done using Efex - but I use both Photomatrix and Efex.   The Efex is just a plugin.
