Preparing for the Holidays: Test your Apps

Labor Day is all over and most of us are not thinking about shopping for the next holidays to come.

While procrastinating on gift shopping is understandable right now, it would be best to spend the time testing mobile applications for buying or shopping online. Failing to do so could really ruin the holidays for you.

From a survey conducted by IBM, 14.6 percent of all online retailer activities during the 2011 holiday season were done through a mobile device. In the same period, 11 percent of the overall sales came from shopping via mobile apps. That is 100% more than the previous year and the data shows that it will further go up in 2012. Without a doubt, mobile shopping is the fastest growing sales channel for many companies today.

Code Freeze

To be able to take advantage of this mobile commerce opportunity, you will need a mobile app that enables buyers to purchase products smoothly on the Internet from your website using an interface that is very user-friendly.

All these must be determined until the middle of October. After that the industry standard code freeze for all mobile apps takes effect.

A code freeze is a period of application development where you are no longer allowed to make any changes to your application software. So if you find any issue with your mobile app you are no longer able to fix the problem which will have negative effects on your sales causing tarnished reputation and loss of revenue.

That is the reason why today is the best time to test your mobile app and check for issues that will affect quality and performance for the coming holiday when shopping is at its peak.

Now that you know that you need to test your mobile app, the next thing to do is to know what features to test and how to test them.

The first in your list should be the ideal target for your mobile app. The basics is to know what mobile operating system to prioritize; Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android, whether to focus on smartphones or tablets or both, and the cost for having your app running on them.
