The Crazy Target Lady
Have you noticed? The seasonal TV commercials featuring the Crazy Target Lady are gone this year. No more feverish and obsessive countdowns to Black Friday. Chances are, you either loved her or hated her.
The Crazy Target Lady is actually an actress and stand up comic by the name of Maria Bamford. Bamford has appeared on Comedy Central and is best-known for her odd voices - including a cartoon series done for “Adventure Time.”
Crazy smart marketing or just crazy?
The weirdness of the Crazy Target Lady ads appealed to me - manical singing of favorite seasonal tunes - the crazed expressions and mannerisms. And, kudos to Target, for being brave enough to poke fun at the shopping obsessed.
This year, in her place, the “Deals Duet.” The new ads feature a young man and woman who advise shoppers through the reworked lyrics of popular Christmas songs - talk about annoying. But, maybe that’s just me.
I’m a big fan of irreverent. And, knowing the brains behind the old ad campaign was Pacific Northwest-based ( Portand, Oregon) Weiden & Kennedy didn’t hurt either. At any rate, I’m missing her. Love her, or hate her - The Target Lady is gone.
The Crazy Target Lady or Deal Duets?
You be the judge - the first two videos are the Crazy Target Lady celebrating the season - and then counting down to Black Friday. The third video - the Deal Duets.
