Is it a Conversation, or a Speech?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Happy Grasshopper

My partner sent this to me this morning: "She had lost the art of conversation, but not, unfortunately, the power of speech." ― George Bernard Shaw

I'm not sure if he was just sharing something he found interesting, sending a suggestion for a blog post, or just giving me a hint!  Maybe it was a little of all 3.

I can definitely forget about the Art of Conversation, especially when I am stressed or have a deadline.

I was thinking about this today when I went to the printer to pick up my Christmas cards.  Have you ever received a holiday greeting that was more like a speech than a greeting?

Or worse.. have you ever received one that was more like a sales pitch.

I'm glad I got the reminder just in time to spend some extra time while I am writing out my Christmas cards.

Do you send out holiday cards?  How do you keep them from turning into sales pitches?  What is your favorite way to start a conversation?

I'm interested to hear what you think.

Happy Holidays Everyone!  I hope your December is full of friends, family and great conversations.

Happy Holidays Celeste. It is hard...but let's all try to slow down a little bit once in awhile during the holidays to appreciate what we're doing. Family & Friends, it is hard to do but extremly important to try.

Thanks for the reminder.

Celeste, good thoughts.  It is great to see family and friends over the holidays and sad that we all wait that long to keep in touch.  I'll follow up with you to see what others post.  Happy Holidays!

I guess when I send out holiday cards at Christmas it is a little commercial. I include a small calender with my card on it. A lot of my sphere thanks me and they have come to expect it. I really don't see the need to try and hide the fact that is you weren't a client you probably wouldn't be getting a card from me, I guess.

Your timing is impeccable as I sit and address my holiday cards. I try to remember each client and their specific scenario when I worked with them as either a buyer or a seller. People appreciate not only being remembered but also when you remember the details! I think it's really important for clients to know they aren't "just another client" but instead that I recognize their particular transaction was a life-changing event to them in most cases as well as an important event in my business. Taking a few extra moments to let them know they are special and that I sincerely appreciate their business is what really matters...especially at this time of the year when everyone is so busy!

I've kept my list of holiday cards short so I can make them very personal.  It is strictly a holiday greeting, a true wish for a happy season.  Nothing real estate related in there.  I send holiday postcards and email blast for my larger circle.
