Nothing Personal - I believe that it's always personal.

It's always personal when we are giving opinion.
It's always personal when we write about our markets.
It's always personal when we engage each other.

If it were not personal, we'd all be alike writing the same thing about the same topics.

Writing is, to some degree, always colored by the personality and views of the writer.

How we see thingsLenn
How we relate to customers and clients
Services we offer
Area information

All the above are seen THROUGH OUR OWN EYES and all are different (unless copied).

The articles we write, the photos we post, are all personal.  Every blog and every blog is unique.  That's why we engage each other.  It's promotional whether we know it or not.

Of course, some folks are more personal than others.

SharingBlogging Can Be Intimidating

Especially for blogging novices.  Each week, I meet lots of ‘blogger wannabes’ who are intrigued by, yet fearful of, venturing off into unchartered, blogging territory.  Since I can talk about the ‘Joys of Blogging’ all day long, I am always eager to enlighten others in their quest to learn more.  So, whenever I am asked for blogging advice – I always make a referral to ActiveRain.

“How Much of My Private Life Will I Have to Share?”

Recently, I received an email message from a colleague expressing some concern over blog content.  After spending a fair amount of time perusing various ActiveRain blog posts, my colleague asked whether the inclusion of personal details is a necessary blogging component.  The short answer is: No.  Of course, ActiveRain has an awesome variety of blog posts.  And sure, some blog posts are deeply personal – others are not.  The truth is:  Blogging styles are unique and individualistic – and everyone has a different comfort level.

Clearly, I’m No Shrinking Violet

Although I would describe my writing as self-deprecating at times, I don't have a propensity for extremely personal narratives.  That doesn't mean that I don't write from my heart and with the utmost sincerity.  I do.  Hopefully, my personality and persona are reflected in the words I choose.  What has truly helped me the most is the following advice I adopted long ago:

•    Write What You Know
•    Be Yourself & Find Your Own Blogging Voice
•    Find Your Blogging Comfort Zone & Be Comfortable There
•    Content & Consistency Are Key

Blogging is Not a One-Size-Fits-All-Type-of-Thing

Blogs are like snowflakes – each one distinct in its own way.  And, that’s the beauty of blogging.  Blogging looks and feels differently to everyone.  Blogging allows others to get to know you – yet you can share as much about yourself as you like.  Naturally, people connect with others for all sorts of reasons.  Find your own groove.  Just remember – whatever feels right to you is okay.  Really.

John and Irma.  If a bit or more of you doesn't come across, you either purchased the content or it won't be very interesting.

Love the reblog Lenn and agree.  It's all very personal and that's what shines through and allows those who want to, to connect with us.  I think that's what makes AR so unique, in that we blog for business, but we can connect with one another and with consumers.  Great stuff :)!

Great reblog Lenn.  I'm not comfortable writing about some topics, but to each their own.  Have a Merry Christmas!

Lenn, we all have our own style and for better or worse it is who we are if we are honest about what we blog about.  And I appreciate your encouragement, even when you point out the things that I do wrong.

Lenn - the mere question is strange. Blogging is not breathing, we can live without it. Blogging is not the same as selling real estate.

It is a form of expressing yourself, where you write about yourself or about real estate market in your area. If in a converstation there is a moment when you are thinking what to talk about, it most probably prudent not to talk. If someone is not sure what to write about, it could be a good idea not to post

Brenda.  Absolutely no doubt in my mind that, when a consumer reads our blog, if they identify with us personally, that is what drives business our way.  Consumers tell me precisely that.

Kay.  I'm not comfortable writing about some things too.  That still leaves a lot of things to write about, like real estate matters.

George.  I don't point out things you do wrong.  I point out things that I BELIEVE you are or not doing right.  I'm not an expert.

Jon.  HA!  From time to time I read a post and think, why on earth would they write about that on a REAL ESTATE BLOGGING NETWORK???
